PSAL. XLVIII.

GReat is the Lord, and greatly

is to be praiſed ſtill,

Within the Citie of our GOD,

in his moſt holy hill.

verse 2 Well ſituat Mount Sion is,

the joy of all the earth,

Of the great king the city fair

on the ſides of the North.

verse 3 God in her palaces is known

for a refuge for ever:

verse 4 For lo the kings aſſembled were,

they paſſed by together.

verse 5 This city great they ſaw, and ſo

they marveild much alway:

They in their hearts were troubled ſore

and haſted all away.

verse 6 As of a woman in travell,

there them ſeizd fear and pain:

verse 7 With an Eaſt wind yu Tarſhiſh ſhips

doſt break in great diſdain.

verse 8 As in Gods city we have heard,

ſo have we ſeen together;

Ev'n in Gods city, God it will

eſtabliſh faſt for ever.

verse 9 In the midſt of thy Temple fair,

O God, who all haſt wrought,

Of thy moſt loving kindneſſe ſtill

we carefully have thought.

verse 10 According to thy name, O God,

ſo is thy praiſe, untill

Th'ends of the earth; and righteouſn…

thy right hand als doth fill.

verse 11 Becauſe of all thy judgements j…

let Sion Mount rejoice:

Let alſo Judahs daughters all

be glade with heart and voice▪

verse 12 About Sion ſee that ye walk

and to perceive her well,

Go round about her buildings fair

the towers thereof now tell.

verse 13 Mark well her bulwarks ſtrong a… hi…

her palaces conſider,

That ye the ſame may clearely tell

to ages following after.

verse 14 For this God is our only God

for ever and for ay;

He will in all things ev'n to death

our guide be evry day.

PSAL. XLIX.

HEar this all people, and give eare

that in the world doe dwell.

verse 2 Both low & high, both rich & poor

together weigh this well.

verse 3 My mouth ſhall ſpeak of wiſdome great,

and of my heart in me

The meditation wholly ſhall

of underſtanding be.

verse 4 Unto a parable moſt rare

mine ear incline I will,

My ſaying dark upon the harp

I will even open ſtill.

verse 5 Wherefore ſhould I fear in the dayes

of evill as in doubt,

When of my heeles th'iniquitie

ſhall compaſſe me about?

verse 6 They that here in their worldly wealth

truſt, which ſhall ſoon be loſt,

And in the multitude alſo

of their riches do boaſt.

verse 7 None of them can by any meanes

redeeme his brother dear,

Nor give to the Almightie God

a ranſome for him heer.

verse 8 Their ſouls redemption precious d…

for ever ceaſe to be:

verse 9 That he ſhould ſtill for ever live,

and not corruption ſee.

verse 10 For he doth ſee that wiſemen die

as fools depriv'd of health,

And brutiſh perſons periſh als

and t'others leave their wealth

verse 11 Their inward thought is that th… ho…

and dwellings ever ſhall

To ages all remain; their lands

… …heir own names they call.

verse 12 Nevertheleſſe in honour great

man not abides for ever:

He ſurely heer is like the beaſts

that periſh altogether.

verse 13 This their ill way moſt ſurely is

their folly which they love,

And yet even their poſteritie

their ſayings do approve.

verse 14 Like ſheep they are laid in the grave,

death ſhall upon them feed,

And th'upright ſhall dominion have

ov'r them in morning tide;

And all their beautie wherein they

did fooliſhly preſume

Shal quickly from their dwelling place

even in the grave conſume,

verse 15 But God now will my ſoul redeeme

from power of the grave,

For he while men me do purſue,

in mercy ſhall receive.

verse 16 Be not afraid when one is made

in richeſſe plenteous,

When in all ſorts increaſed is

the glorie of his houſe.

verse 17 For when he dies, he carry ſhall

nothing away in end,

His glorie ſhall not after him

into the grave deſcend.

verse 18 Though whiles he lived heere ea…

his ſoul he bleſſed ſtill:

And when thou well doſt to thy ſel…

men praiſe thee ſurely will.

verse 19 He to the generation then

of his old fathers right

Shall go; and for their greater wo…

they never ſhall ſee light.

verse 20 Man that in honour is and place,

and can it not conſider,

Is like unto moſt brutiſh beaſts

that periſh altogether.

PSAL. L.

THe mighty God, yea ev'n the Lo…

hath ſpoke, and cald anone

The earth from the ſuns riſing up

unto his going down.

verse 2 Out of Sion that holy hill

where perfect beauties be,

God for to manifeſt his might

hath ſhined gloriouſly.

verse 3 Our God ſhall come, and ſhall

keep ſilence any more;

A fire tempeſtuous round about

before him ſhall devore.

verse 4 He to the heav'ns high from above,

and to the earth ſhall call,

That he in right and equitie

may judge his people all.

verse 5 Together to me gather now

my ſaints on earth that be,

Thoſe that have made by ſacrifice

a Covenant faſt with me.

verse 6 And all the heav'ns his righteouſnes

declare moſt clearly ſhall,

For God himſelf upon his Throne

is Judge ev'n over all.

verse 7 My people hear, and I will ſpeak,

O Iſra'l againſt thee

I'll teſtifie, for I am God,

yea even thy God moſt hie.

verse 8 For ſacrifice or offrings burnt

I'll neither leſſe nor more

Thee challenge for continually

to have been me before.

verse 9 I will no bullock from thy houſe

for ſacrifice once take,

Nor yet out of thy wealthy folds

hie goats for want or lack.

verse 10 For of the forreſt every beaſt

is mine by right indeed,

And als the cattell which upon

a thouſand hills doth feed.

verse 11 I of the mountaines all the fou…

know by ſcience divine,

And all the wild beaſts of the field

undoubtedly are mine.

verse 12 If I were hungry, I would not

the matter to thee tell,

For the whole world by right is …

yea and its fulneſſe all.

verse 13 Will I as hungry eat the fleſh

of bulls, as ſome doe think?

Or will I alſo in my thirſt

take blood of goates to drink?

verse 14 Thanksgiving offer thou alway

unto God chearefullie,

And not forget thy vows to pay,

ev'n unto the moſt hie.

verse 15 And in the day of trouble great

ſee that thou call on me,

I thee deliver will; and then

thou ſhalt me glorifie.

verse 16 But God ſaith to the wicked man,

why doſt thou mention make

Of my ſtatutes, or Cov'nant once

into thy mouth doſt take?

verse 17 Sith thou in thine ill heart doſt hate

inſtruction all at laſt,

And all my words which ſhould thee teach;

behind thee thou doſt caſt.

verse 18 When thou didſt ſee a thief, then thou

with him didſt wel conſent,

And with adultrers moſt profane,

a partaker thou went.

verse 19 Thy wicked mouth thou giveſt ſtill

to much ill and debate,

And thy perverſe and lying tongue

doth alwayes frame deceit.

verse 21 Theſe things moſt wicked done …

Thou thoughtſt that altogether I

But I at laſt, who righteous am,

PSAL. LI.

ACcording to thy kindnes great

have mercy LORD on me,

Blot out my ſins according to

the mercies great in thee.

verse 2 Me all defil'd now throughly waſh

from mine iniquitie,

And from my ſin that grievous is

in mercy cleanſe thou me.

verse 3 For I my great tranſgreſſion ſtill

acknowledge more and more,

And my moſt vile and bloody ſin

is ever me before.

verse 4 Againſt thee, thee onelyonly have I

committed this great ſin,

And done this ill even by and by,

while I thy ſight was in.

That when thou ſpeakeſt alwayes thou

ſtill juſtified mightſt be,

And be made clear without reproach

when as thou judgeſt me.

verse 5 Behold at firſt I ſhapen was

all in iniquitie,

And in the womb my mother als

in ſin conceived me.

verse 6 Behold thou truth deſireſt ſtill

in th'inward of the heart,

And thou ſhalt make mee wiſedo… kn…

even in the hidden part.

verse 7 Purge me with hyſſope, and I ſha…

be clean moſt perfectly:

Waſh me, and whiter than the ſno…

I ſhall then ſurely be.

verse 8 Of joy and gladneſſe make thou…

to hear at laſt the voice,

That ſo the wearied bones which …

haſt broken may rejoice.

verse 9 Now from my ſins that grievou…

hide thou thy face and eyes,

And for thy mercies ſake blot ou…

all mine iniquities.

verse 10 Create thou now in me, O Go…

a heart made clean from ſin,

And als a right and conſtant ſprite

renew thou me within.

verse 11 From thy preſence which com…

caſt me not now away,

Thy holy ſprite in anger hote

take not from me alway.

verse 12 The joy of thy ſalvation now

reſtore thou unto me,

And in thy merciemercy me uphold

with thine own ſprite moſt free.

verse 13 Then will I the tranſgreſſours teach

thy wayes that righteous be;

And ſinners ſhall be from their ſins

converted unto thee.

verse 14 O God of my ſalvation, God,

from guiltineſſe of bloud

Me ſave, and of thy righteouſneſſe

my tongue ſhall ſing aloud.

verse 15 O LORD, now open thou my lips,

and ſo thy praiſe of worth

My mouth thus ſet at libertie

ſhall thankfully ſhew foorth.

verse 16 For of the outward ſacrifice

thou haſt no great deſire;

Elſe would I give't, thou not delight'ſt

in offering burnt with fire.

verse 17 Of God the ſacrifices are

a broken ſprite alwayes,

A broken and a contrite heart,

O God, thou'll not deſpiſe.

verse 18 In thy good pleaſure do thou good

unto thy Sion all,

And of thine own Jeruſalem

now build thou up the wall.

verse 19 Then ſacrifice of righteouſneſſe

burnt offerings burnt in all

Shall well thee pleaſe, they bullocks…

thine Altars offer ſhall.

PSAL. LII.

O Mightie man, why doſt thou bo…

in miſchief moſt ſecure?

Of GOD the goodneſſe alwayes do…

continually endure.

verse 2 Thy wicked tongue miſchiefs alwa…

deviſeth craftily,

Like a ſharp razor ſtill it doth

worke moſt deceitfully.

verse 3 Thou evill ſurely more doſt love

then good which thou ſhould'ſt ſee

And lying rather doſt approve

then righteouſneſſe to ſpeak.

verse 4 Thou with thy heart that is profane

devouring words doſt love,

O thou falſe and moſt ſubtile tongue,

who doſt deceitfull prove.

verse 5 God ſhal likewiſe deſtroy thee quite,

he ſhall take thee away

Pluck'd from thine houſe & rooted out

from livings land for ay.

verse 6 The righteous that do love the Lord

ſhall this moſt clearely ſee,

They ſhall have fear, and als at him,

ſhall laugh moſt joyfullie.

verse 7 Loe, this man made not God his ſtrength,

but in his richeſſe ill

Did truſt, and in his wickedneſſe

himſelf did ſtrengthen ſtill.

verse 8 But I am in the houſe of God

like a green olive tree;

In Gods mercy is all my truſt,

and ſhall for ever be.

verse 9 Becauſe thou haſt it done I will

thee praiſe for evermore,

And on thy Name I'll waite, for it

is good thy ſaints before,

PSAL. LIII.

THat there's no God the fool hath ſaid

within his heart ſo rude,

Corrupt they are, their deeds are vile,

there is none that doth good.

verse 2 God looked down from heav'n upon

mens children, for to ſee

If any were that underſtood,

or did ſeek God truelie.

verse 3 They filthie altogether are,

and back they are all gone:

There is none that doth any good,

yea truely no not one.

verse 4 Have workers of iniquitie

no knowledge now at all?

Who as bread eate my people up;

on God they do not call.

verse 5 There were they always in great fear

where no fear was of wrath

For GOD, his bones who did encamp

againſt thee, ſcattred hath:

Thou in thy righteous judgement haſt

even put them all to ſhame,

Becauſe God in his anger hot,

thus hath deſpiſed them.

verse 6 O that now the ſalvation dear

of Iſrael by Gods will

In mercy alwayes were come out

of Sions holy hill:

When God back the captivitie

brings of his people ſad,

Jacob ſhall greatlie then rejoice,

and Iſrael ſhall be glad.

PSAL. LIIII

O God, me ſave now by thy Name,

and judge me by thy ſtrength:

verse 2 My prayer now hear, O God, give ear

unto my words at length.

verse 3 For 'gainſt me ſtrangers riſen are,

and my poor ſoul to get

Oppreſſours ſeek; they God at all

before them have not ſet.

verse 4 God is my helper ſure alwayes,

conſider and behold,

The LORD in mercy is with them

that do my ſoul uphold.

verse 5 He certainly ſhall ev'll reward

unto mine enemies all;

By thy great power ev'n in thy trueth

them cut off great and ſmall.

verse 6 I freely now will unto thee

a ſacrifice afford,

I will thy Name praiſe chearfully

for it is good, O LORD.

verse 7 For he me out of trouble all

delivred hath anone;

And his deſire mine eye hath ſeen,

mine enemies all upon.

PSAL. LV.

O God unto my prayer ſtill

give ear when I do call,

And from my ſupplication now

hide not thy ſelf at all.

verse 2 Unto me whilſt I cry attend,

and hear my wailing voice,

I heavy mourne in my complaint,

and troubled make a noiſe.

verse 3 Becauſe of th' enmies voice, becauſe

the wicked in their ſeat

Oppreſſe, for they caſt ſin on me,

in wrath they als me hate.

verse 4 My heart in thoſe calamities

is in me pained ſore,

And terrours now of death are fall'n

upon me more and more.

verse 5 Both fearfulneſſe and trembling als

upon me heavilie

Are come, and alſo honour great

hath overwhelmed me.

verse 6 And I ſaid, O that like a Dove

I had wings thus oppreſt,

Then would I quickly flie away,

and alwayes be at reſt.

verse 7 Loe, then far off I wander would

in wilderneſſe to be,

verse 8 From windie ſtorme and tempeſt I

…'eſcape would haſten me.

verse 9 Deſtroy, O LORD and als divide

the tongues that falſe have been▪

For violence and ſtrife I have

within the city ſeen.

verse 10 About it on the walls thereof

they go both night and day,

Miſchief and ſorrow als are in

the midſt of it alway.

verse 11 Great wickedneſſe is alwayes in

thereof the middle part,

And from her ſtreets deceit and guile

do not at all depart.

verse 12 For it was not my foes reproach,

I then could that abide,

Nor yet my hater did me boaſt,

from him I would me hide.

verse 13 But it was thou, ev'n thou a man

mine equall alwayes heer,

My guide in all my great affaires,

and mine acquaintance dear.

verse 14 We counſell ſweet together took

and walked chearfullie,

Unto the houſe of GOD the LORD

in pleaſant companie.

verse 15 Let death on them ſeaze, & let th…

For among them is wickedneſſe,

and alſo where they dwell.

verse 16 But as for me, I on my God

will call, his help to crave;

And by his ſtrength the mighty LORD

moſt ſurely ſhall me ſave.

verse 17 Evning and morning, and at noon

I fervently will pray,

And cry aloud, and he my voice

ſhall hear without delay.

verse 18 He hath my ſoul deliv'red ſafe

in peace ſtill for to be

From Battell that againſt me was;

for many were with me

but I will truſt in thee.

PSAL. LVI.

BE mercifull to me, O GOD,

for man would in diſtreſſe

Me ſwallow up; he fighting ſtill

me daily doth oppreſſe.

verse 2 Mine enmies in a fearfull rage

would daily ſwallow me▪

For they be many that now fight

againſt me, O moſt hie.

verse 3 What time in mine affliction

I am afraid for ill,

In thee with great affection

moſt ſurely truſt I will.

verse 4 In God I'll praiſe his word, in God

I truſted have ſurelie,

I will not fear in dangers great,

what fleſh can do to me.

verse 5 They ev'rie day moſt wickedly

my words wreſt at their will:

Their thoughts all full of treachery.

againſt me are for ill.

verse 6 Themſelves together gather they,

themſelves they cloſely hide:

They mark my ſteps when for my ſoul

they wait lay on each ſide.

verse 7 Shall thus the wicked men eſcape

by their iniquitie?

In anger great caſt down, O God,

the people fearfullie.

verse 8 My wandrings thou both here & the…

Into thy bottell put my teares:

are they not in thy book?

verse 9 Then ſhal mine enmies all turn bac…

This I well know, for God alwayes

is ever ſtill for me.

verse 10 In God who is moſt faithfull ſtill

I will now praiſe his word

With all my heart; his word I will

praiſe in the mighty LORD.

verse 11 I truſt in God, not fear I will

what man can do to me:

verse 12 Thy vowes upon me are, O God,

I'le render praiſe to thee.

verse 13 For thou haſt ſav'd my ſoul from death

wilt thou my feet not free

From falls? That in the livings light

I walk may before thee,

PSAL. LVII.

BE mercifull to me, O GOD

be mercifull to me:

For my ſoul in my troubles great

doth alwayes truſt in thee.

Yea in the ſhadow of thy wings

I my refuge at laſt

Will make, till thoſe calamities

be wholly overpaſt.

verse 2 I unto God, that is moſt high,

with all my heart will cry

Unto God that all things for me

performeth by and by.

verse 3 From heav'n he ſhal ſend & me ſave

from his reproach in end

That me would ſwallow; God his truth

and mercy foorth ſhal ſend.

verse 4 My troubled ſoul is ſtill among

fierce Lions full of ire,

And I among them alwayes lie

that ſtill are ſet on fire:

Ev'n the moſt cruell ſons of men,

whoſe teeth me for to wrong

Are piercing ſpears, and arrows als;

a ſharp ſword is their tongue.

verse 5 Be thou above the heav'ns, O Go…

exalted ever hie,

And alſo all the earth above

let thy great glory be.

verse 6 They for my ſteps a net prepar'd,

my ſoul is bow'd with all;

For me they dig'd a pit, but in

the midſt thereof did fall.

verse 7 My heart, O God, faſt fixed is

my heart in all my wayes

Faſt fixed is: I will both ſing

and give due praiſe alwayes.

verse 8 Awake, my glorie up with ſpeed

and Pſaltrie mirth to make▪

Awake my Harp: yea I my ſelf

will earely now awake.

verse 9 I will thee praiſe, O Lord, alway…

the people all among,

To thee among the nations all

I will now ſing a ſong.

verse 10 For thy merciemercy is great unto

the heav'ns which none can ſearch

Thy truth alſo moſt gloriouſly

unto the clouds doth reach.

verse 11 Be thou exalted, LORD, above

the heav'ns that are moſt hie,

And likewiſe above all the earth

let ſtill thy glory be.

PSAL. LVIII.

O Congregation do ye ſtill

ſpeak righteouſneſſe indeed?

O ſons of men do ye to judge

And of your hands here in the earth

the violence you weigh.

verse 3 The wicked are ev'n from the womb

eſtrang'd, before our eyes

They go aſtray, aſſoone as they

doth come from him alone.

verse 2 He only my ſalvation is

and rock that is moſt hie,

He's my defence, I ſhall therefore

not greatly moved be.

verse 3 How long miſchief againſt a ma…

imagine thus will ye?

Ye ſlain all as a bowing wall,

and tottring fence ſhall be.

verse 4 They ſtill conſult to caſt him do

from his excellency,

They love falſe lies; with mouth bl…

but they curſe inwardly,

verse 5 O thou my ſoul with patience

wait only God upon,

For all my expectation is

from him my LORD alone:

verse 6 He onelyonly my ſalvation is,

and rock moſt ſtrong is he,

He alſo is my ſure defence,

I ſhall not moved be.

verse 7 My glory and ſalvation als

is in my God and Judge,

In God is the rock of my ſtrength,

and my moſt ſure refuge.

verse 8 At all times put your truſt in him;

ye people him before

Powre out your heart; God a refuge

is for us evermore.

verse 9 Of low degree men are moſt vaine,

men high are but a lye:

Laid in a ballance, they are all

more light then vanity.

verse 10 Truſt not into oppreſſion, nor

in robb'rie vain have part,

If that your richeſſe doe increaſe,

ſet not on them your heart.

verse 11 God hath once ſpoken, twice I have

this clearly heard abroad

That power in great excellency

belongeth unto God.

verse 12 Great mercy alſo doth belong

to thee, O Lord, alone;

For thou according to his work

doſt render to each one.
