The Psalms of David in Meter, Metrical Psalter · Psalm 106
PSAL. CVI.
PRaiſe ye the LORD, O now give thanks
unto the Lord together,
For he is good; for his mercy
endureth faſt for ever.
verse 2 Who of the LORD Omnipotent,
the mighty acts of worth
Well utter can? Who all his praiſe
can to the full ſhew foorth?
verse 3 Bleſt are all they that judgement wel
do keep in all their wayes,
And he that upright at all times
doth righteouſneſſe alwayes.
verse 4 With favour ſuch remember me,
as thou, O LORD, doſt bear
To thy people, O viſit me
with thy ſalvation dear.
verse 5 That I thy choſen good may ſee
in thy folks gladneſſe glade,
That I with thine inheritance
to glory may be made.
verse 6 We with our fathers ſinned have,
we have iniquitie
Committed by a ſinfull life,
we have done wickedlie.
verse 7 The wonders great which thou did wor…
O Lord, in Egypt land,
Our fathers though they ſaw them all
did not them underſtand:
Of thy great mercies multitude
they well remembred never,
But at the ſea, ev'n the red ſea
they him provok'd together.
verse 8 Nevertheleſſe, he by his might
them ſav'd who were his own,
For his names ſake, that he might make
his mighty power known.
verse 9 He als the red ſea did rebuke,
and it was then made dry;
Through deeps as through the wilderneſſe
he led them by and by.
verse 10 He ſav'd them from the hand of him
that did them alwayes hate,
And them redeemed from the hand
of th'enemie ſo great.
verse 11 The waters covred then their foes
of them left was not one,
verse 12 Then they beleeved all his words,
they ſang his praiſe anone.
verse 13 They ſoon by their unthankfulnes,
his glorious works forgot,
For his wiſe counſell fooliſhly
at all they waited not.
verse 14 But in the barren wilderneſſe
did luſt exceedingly,
And in the deſert, GOD alwayes
they tempted fooliſhly.
verse 15 And he to them als their requeſt
gave after their intent,
But waſting leanneſſe ſuddenly
into their ſoul he ſent.
verse 16 They alſo Moſes in the camp
did vex with great envy,
And Aaron, though a Saint of God,
by them was not ſet by.
verse 17 Therefore the earth did open wide
and Dathan ſpeedily
Did ſwallow up, and covred als
Abirams company.
verse 18 And alſo in their companie
a kindled fire did fall,
The flam thereof then breaking forth
burnt up the wicked all.
verse 19 A calf of gold in Horeb they
made in their folly rare,
And worſhipped moſt fooliſhly
the molten image there.
verse 20 Thus they their glory ſhamefully
chang'd as they did treſpaſſe,
Into the likneſſe of an ox
that eats on earth the graſſe.
verse 21 They God their Saviour then forg…
which by his mighty hand,
For their comfort alwayes had done,
great things in Egypt land.
verse 22 Moſt wondrous works within the land
of Ham, as all might ſee,
And things that were moſt terrible
even hard by the red ſea.
verse 23 Then ſaid he, He would them deſtroy,
had Moſes in the way
Not ſtood, from them deſtroying all
to turn his wrath away.
verse 24 Yea they deſpiſde the pleaſant land,
they not beleev'd his word.
verse 25 But in their tents they murmur'd ſtill
not hearkning to the Lord.
verse 26 Therefore 'gainſt them he lifted up
his hand with great diſtreſſe,
To overthrow them every man
in the waſte wilderneſſe.
verse 27 And als among the Nations all
to overthrow anone
Their ſeed, and likewiſe in the lands
to ſcatter them each one.
verse 28 To Baal Peor alſo they
did joine themſelves with ſpeed,
And ate the ſacrifices that
were offred to the dead,
verse 29 Thus they moſt fooliſhly with their
inventions full of ſin
To anger him provok'd; and ſo
the plague on them brake in.
verse 30 Then Phineas full of zeal ſtood up,
and judgement he that day
Did execute, and ſo the LORD
the fearfull plague did ſtay.
verse 31 And unto him for righteouſneſſe
that counted was therefore:
Yea, unto generations all,
and that for evermore.
verse 32 They at the waters als of ſtrife
ſore did him angrie make
So that it went exceeding all
with Moſes for their ſake.
verse 33 Becauſe they did his wounded ſprit
provoke preſumptuouſly,
So that at laſt he with his lips
ſpake unadviſedly.
verse 34 They alſo did not then deſtroy
the Nations with their hand,
Concerning whom the Lord to them learn
expreſly gave command.
verse 35 But they the heathens workes did
with whom they mingled were,
verse 36 And they their idols ſerved als
which were to them a ſnare.
verse 37 Yea, which was more, ev'n in a rage
the cauſe of fearfull evils.
Their ſons and daughters wickedly
they ſacrific'd to devils.
verse 38 And ſo they blood moſt innocent
did ſhed without all fear,
Yea, ev'n the blood of thoſe that were
their ſons and daughters dear:
Whom unto Cana'ns idols they
did offer with their hand,
So with the blood of their own brood
polluted was the land.
verse 39 Thus with their own moſt wicked works
defiled all they were,
And with their own inventions went
a whoring ev'ry where.
verse 40 For this againſt his people was
the Lords wrath kindled ſore,
So that his own inheritance
he greatly did abhor.
verse 41 And he them gave into the hand
of heathen void of grace,
And they that hated them did rule
ov'r them in ev'ry place.
verse 42 Their enmies als deſpightfully
oppreſſd them in the land,
And they unto ſubjection were
brought underneath their hand:
verse 43 He many times delivred them,
but with their counſell ſlie
They him provok'd, and were broug… …
for their iniquitie.
verse 44 Nevertheleſſe, he mercifull
in pity did regard
Their great affliction in their grief,
when thus their cry he heard.
verse 45 And he remembred well alſo
his Covnant for their good,
And did repent according to
his mercies multitud.
verse 46 He alſo in his goodneſſe great
them to be piti'd made
Of all thoſe that them from their land
then captives cari'd had,
verse 47 Save us, O Lord our God and us
out from the heathen raiſe,
To give thanks to thy holy Name
and triumph in thy praiſe.
verse 48 To bleſſe the Lord God of Iſra'l
for evermore accord:
And als let all the people ſay,
Amen; praiſe ye the LORD.
