The Psalms of David in Meter with the Prose Interlined, Psalm 71

PSAL. LXXI.

IN thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be put to confusion.

O Thou who art my Lord alone, I put my trust in thee:

Therefore unto confusion put let thou me never be.

2 Deliver me in thy righteousnesse, and cause me to escape: encline thine ear unto me, and save me.

2 Let thou me in thy righteousnesse from thee deliv'rance have:

Cause me escape, incline thine ear unto me, and me save.

3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me, for thou art my rock, and my fortresse.

3 Be thou my habitation strong where still I may resort:

Thou gav'st commandment me to save who art my rock and fort.

4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruell man.

4 Do thou out of the wicked… hand my God deliver me;

Out of the hand of the unjust, and those that cruel be.

5 For thou art my hope, O Lord God▪ thou att my trust from my youth.

6 By thee have I been holden up from the womb:

5 For thou Lord God, my hope and trust art from my youth to me:

6 I still have from the very womb been holden up by thee,

Thou art he that took me out of my mothers bowels, my praise shall be coutinually of thee.

That of my mothers bowels out me took, thou ev'n art he,

My praises they shall be therefore continually of thee.

7 I am as a wonder unto many: but thou art my strong refuge.

8 Let my mouth be filled with thy praise, and with thy honour all the day.

7 To many as a wonder I'm, but thou my refuge strong,

8▪ Let with thy praise my mouth be fill'd▪ and honour all day long.

9 Cast me not off in the time of old age forsake me not when my strength faileth.

9 In time of old age let me not be then cast off by thee;

Do thou me not forsake, when as my strength all faileth me.

10 For mine enemies speak against me: and they that lay wait for my soul, take counsell together,

10 For those that are mine enemies against me thus they spake,

And they that for my soul lay wait, together counsell take.

11 Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him, for there is none to deliver him.

11 God, say they, hath forsaken him, him persecute and take;

For unto him there is none that deliverance can make.

12 O God, be not far from me: O my God▪ make haste for my help.

13 Let them be confounded and consumed, that are adversaries to my soul:

12 O God be thou not from me far my God hast help to me,

13 Let adversaries to my soul consum'd, confounded be.

Let them he covered with reproath and dishonour, that seek my hurt.

14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.

Let them dishonour and reproach that seek my soul cov'r o're:

14 But I will hope continually and praise thee more and more.

15 My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousnesse, and thy salvation all the day: for I know not the numbers thereof.

15 My mouth shall forth thy righteousnes and thy salvation show

Ev'n all the day, for I thereof the numbers do not know.

16 I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of thy righteousnesse, even of thine onelyonly.

16 In strength of God that is the Lord I will be going still,

Make mention of thy righte…nesse, ev'n only thine I will.

17 O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.

17 O God, I even from my youth by thee so have been taught,

And hitherto I have declar'd the wonders thou hast wrought.

18 Now also when I am old, and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not: untill I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.

18 When I old and grayheaded am, Lord, me forsake not now,

Till to this age thy strength and power to all to come I show.

19 Thy righteousnesse also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee?

19 Thy righteousnesse, O God, also is very high to see,

Who hast so great things done: O God, who is like unto thee.

20 Thou which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the deepths of the earth.

20 Thou which hast troubles great and sore unto me shewed forth,

Shalt quicken and bring me again, up from deepths of the earth.

21 Thou shalt increase my greatnesse, and comfort me on every side.

21 The greatnes that is mine thou shalt for to increase provide,

And thou shalt also comfort give to me on ev'ry side.

22 I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou holy One of Israel.

22 My God thee, ev'n thy truth I'le praise the psalterie upon,

I with the harp will sing to thee, O Israels holy One.

23 My lips shall greatlie rejoice when I sing unto thee: and my soul which thou hast redeemed.

23 My lips they greatly shall rejoice when I sing unto thee,

And this my soul which thou hast made redeemed for to be.

24 My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousnesse all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.

24 My tongue als of thy righteousnesse shall talk all the day long,

For they confounded are and sham'd, that seek to do me wrong.
