The Psalms of David in Meter with the Prose Interlined, Psalm 38 – Psalm 39
PSALME XXXVIII.
O Lord rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
IN thy great wrath, O thou my Lord, do thou rebuke me not,
Nor do thou also chasten me, in thy displeasure hote.
2 For thine arrows stick …ast in me: and thy hand presseth me sore.
2 For arrows that are thine do stick fast in me more and more;
Yea and thy hand which heavy is me presseth very sore.
3 There is no soundnesse in my flesh, because of thine anger: neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
3 No soundnesse by thing anger great, there is my flesh within▪
Nor in my bones is any rest by reason of my sin.
4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head, and as an heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
4 For mine iniquities they be mine head gone over far,
And as a heavy burden they too heavy for me are.
… My wounds stink and are corrupt: because of my foolishnesse.
6 I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly: I go mourning all the day long.
5 My wounds do stink and are corrupt, it's for my folly so:
6 I'm troubled; I'm bow'd greatly down all day I mourning go,
7 For my loins are filled with a loathsome discase: and there is no soundnesse in my flesh.
7 For a disease doth fill my loines that very loathsome is,
So that at all within my flesh no soundnesse is for this.
8 I am feeble and sore broken, I have roared by reason of the disquietnesse of my heart.
8 I feeble am and broken sore; I have in this my smart
Ev'n roared still by reason of disquietnesse of heart.
9 Lord, all my desire is before thee: and my groaning is not hid from thee.
10 My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.
9 All my desire's before thee Lord, from thee not hid's my grone
10 My heart doth pant, my strength me fails mine eyes light's from me gone.
11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore: and my kinsmen stand afar off.
11 My lovers friends all from my sore aloof they standers are,
And who are kinsmen unto me they do stand off afar.
12 They also that seek after my life, lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt, speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
12 Who seek my life lay snares for me, who seek my hurt ev'n they
Mischievous things speak, and deceits imagine all the day.
13 But I as a deaf man, heard not: and I was as a dumb man that opneth not his mouth.
13 But as a man that deaf is, I heard not what they did call,
And as one dumb I was, that his mouth op'neth not at all.
14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
14 Thus as one that not hears I was, whose mouth reproves no word:
15 For Lord in thee I hope, thou wilt me hear, O God, my Lord,
16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoyce over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnifie themselves against me.
16 For I said, Hear me, lest that they rejoice should over me;
They'gainst me when my foot doth slip themselves do magnifie.
17 For I am ready to halt: and my sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I will declare mine iniquitie: I will be sorry for my sin.
17 For I am ready for to halt, my grief's before me still:
18 For I'le declare my fault, and for my sin be sorry will.
19 But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully, are multiplied.
19 But those that are mine enemies are strong, and lively yet;
And they are likewise multipli'd that wrongfully me hate.
20 They also that render evill for good, are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
20 They that for good do render ill, mine adversaries rude
They also are, because the thing I follow that is good.
21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.
22 Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation.
21 Forsake me not O Lord my God far off from me not be,
22 O thou Lord my Salvation, make haste for help to me.
PSAL. XXXIX.
I Said, I will take heed to my wayes, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle▪ while the wicked is before me.
LEst with my tongue I sin, I said, I'le to my wayes look still,
Before the wicked man my mouth with bridle keep I will.
2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good, and my sorrow was stirred.
2 I being made with silence dumbe, ev'n from good held my peace;
And after that my sorrow thus was stirred in its place.
3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue.
3 My heart within me then was hot, while I was musing long
The fire did burn, and then did I these words speak with my tongue,
4 Lord make me to know mine end, and the measure of my dayes, what it is: that I may know how frail I am▪
4 Lord make me for to know mine end, and measure of my dayes,
And what it is, that I may know how frail I am alwayes
5 Behold, thou hast made my dayes as an hand-breadth, and mine ago is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
5 Lo thou my dayes as handbreadth madst, mine age before thine eye
As nothing is: Sure man at's best is wholly vainity. Selah.
6 Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
6 Each man sure walks in a vain shew, disquieted in vain:
He heaps up riches, and not knows who gather shall that gain.
7 And now Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
8 Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.
7 And now, O Lord, what wait I for my hope it is in thee:
8 From all my sins me save; make not the fools reproach of me.
9 I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.
10 Remove thy stroak away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.
9 I dumb my mouth not opened, because thou didst the same,
10 Remove thy stroke from me, consum'd by thy hands blow I am.
11 When thou with rebuke dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beautie to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanitie. Selah.
11 When with rebukes thou dost correct man for iniquity;
Thou wasts his beauty like a moath: sure each man's vainity. Selah.
12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry, hold not thy peace at my teares:
12 O Lord, do thou my prayer hear, and to my cry thine ears
Do thou incline, and do not hold thy peace at those my tears;
For I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.
Because that I thus with thee am a stranger every where,
And a sojourner am also as all my fathers were.
13 O spare me, that I may recover strength: before I go hence, and be no more.
13 O spare thou me, that I my strength recover may, before
That I must go away from hence, and after be no more.
