The Psalms of David in Meter with the Prose Interlined, Psalm 35 – Psalm 36
PSALME XXXV.
PLead my cause (O Lord) with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
PLead, Lord, with them that strive, & fight gainst them that fight with me:
2 Do thou the shield and buckler take, stand up mine help to be.
3 Draw out also the spear and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
3 Draw out also the spear, and do against them stop the way
That persecute me; to my soul I'm thy salvation say.
4 Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
4 Let them confounded be that seek my soul, to shame them put;
Brought to confusion let thou them turn back that plot my hurt.
5 Let them be as chaffe before the winde … and let the angel of the Lord chase them.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of the Lord persecute them.
5 As chaffe before the wind be they them let Gods angel chase
6 Dark, slippery, be their way, let them Gods Angel drive apace.
7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.
7 For without cause they for me have their net hid in a pit:
Without a cause from me have they for my soul digged it.
8 Let destruction come upon him at unawars, and let his net that he hath hid, catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
8 Let ruine seize him unawars: his net he hid withall
Let it him catch, and in the same destruction let him fall.
9 And my soul shall be joyfull in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
10 All my bones shall say, Lord who is like unto thee;
9 In God my soul shall joy, and glad in his salvation be:
10 Thus all my bones shall say, O Lord, who is like unto thee.
Which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the n…edy from him that spoileth him?
Which dost the poor release from him that is for him too strong,
Yea poor and needy from the man that spoiling doth him wrong.
11 False witnesses did rise up: they laid to my charge things that I knew not.
12 They rewarded me evill for good, to the spoiling of my soul.
11 False witnesses rose, to my charge things I not knew they laid:
12 To spoiling of my soul they me did ill for good reward.
13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine own bosome.
13 With fast my soul then humbled I, my cloathing was of sack
When they were sick, my prayer return'd to mine own bosome back.
14 I behaved my self as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavilie, as one that mourneth for his mother.
14 I did behave my self as he had been my friend or brother;
I heavily bow'd down as one that mourneth for his mother.
15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathred themselves together against me,
15 But in my trouble they rejoic'd, gathring themselves together,
The abjects yea together did themselves against me gather.
And I knew it not, they did tear me, and ceased not.
16 With hypocriticall mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
I it not knew, they did me tear, they would not ceasing be.
16 With mockers hypocrites in feasts they gnasht their teeth on me.
17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
17 O Lord how long wilt thou look on? my darling soul do thou
From their destructions, and from the lions young rescue.
18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.
18 In the great Congregation I will give thanks to thee,
Among much people there thou shalt be praised als by me.
19 Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
19 Let them not o're me joy that are mine enemies wrongfully:
Nor who me hate without a cause let them wink with the eye.
20 For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitfull matters against them that are quiet in the land.
20 For peace at all they do not speak but they do take in hand
Deceitfull matters' gainst them that are quiet in the land.
21 Yea, they opened their moutb wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
22 This thou hast seen (O Lord) keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.
21 With mouths made wide they 'gainst me said, Ha, ha, our eye did see:
22 Lord thou this saw'st, not silence keep, LORD be not far from me.
23 Stir up thy self, and awake to my judgement, even unto my cause my God and my LORD.
23 Stir up thy self, and do awake, me judgement to assord,
Ev'n to the cause that is mine own, my God and als my Lord.
24 Iudge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousnesse, and let them not rejoice over me.
24 O Lord my God do thou me judge after thy righteousnesse,
And do thou not let them at all now over me rejoice.
25 Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
25 Let them not in their hearts say, Ah, we would it so to be,
Let them not have it for to say, him swallowed up have we.
26 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together, that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour, that magnifie themselves against me.
26 Sham'd and confounded be they all that joy my hurt to see,
Let shame, dishonour cloth them that them 'gainst me magnifie.
27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually,
27 Let them for joy shout, and be glad, that favour lovingly
My cause that righteous is, yea let them say continually,
Let the Lord be magnified which hath plea sure in the prosperitie of his servant.
Let him that is the mighty Lord, be magnified hye,
Which a great pleasure hath in his servants prosperity.
28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousnesse, and of thy praise all the day long.
28 And of the righteousnesse that's thine I shall speak with my tongue.
And all the day long of the praise that doth to thee belong.
PSAL. XXXVI.
THe transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.
THe wicked mans transgression within my heart it sayes:
That of the Lord there is no fear at all before his eyes.
2 For he flattereth himself in his own cyes, untill his iniquity be found to be hatefull.
2 For that even in his own eyes himself still flattereth he,
Untill that his iniquity be hatefull found to be.
3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to doe good.
3 Words of his mouth are all deceit and als iniquity
He to be wise, and to do good hath left off utterly.
4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed, he setteth himself in a way that is not good: he abhorreth not evill.
4 He doth on's bed mischief devise, himself he also still
Sets in a way that is not good he not abhorreth ill.
5 Thy mercy (O Lord) is in the heavens: and thy faithfulnesse reacheth unto the clouds
5 O Lord the mercy that is thine is in the heavens hy,
And so doth als thy faithfulnesse reach to the cloudy sky.
6 Thy righteousnesse is like the great mou… tains; thy judgements are a great deep; O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.
6 Thy righteousnesse is like unto the mountains that are s…eep,
A great deep are thy judgements, Lord, thou man and beast dost keep.
7 How excellent is thy loving kindenesse, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shaddow of thy wings.
7 How is thy loving kindenesse, Lord, excellent in all things!
Therefore mens children put their trust in shaddow of thy wings.
8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatnesse of thy house: and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
8 They with the fatnesse of thy house well satisfi'd i… all be:
Thou shalt make them of rivers drink of pleasures come from thee.
9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
9 For that the fountain of all life is evermore with thee:
And in the light which is thine own we clearly light shall see.
10 O continue thy loving kindenesse unto them that know thee: and thy righteousnesse to the upright in heart.
10 Thy loving kindenesse uuto them continue that thee know,
And to the men upright in heart thy righteousnesse allow.
11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me,
11 Let not the foot of pride once come against me, me to move:
Let not the hand of wicked men me from my place remove.
12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
12 The workers of iniquitie there fallen are; like wise
They are cast down, and they shall not be able to arise.
