The Psalms of David in Meter with the Prose Interlined, Psalm 109 – Psalm 117

PSAL. CIX.

HOld not thy peace, O God of my praise.

2 For the mouth of the wicked,

HOld not thy peace, O thou that art the God of all my praise:

2 For that the mouth of them that are most wicked in their wayes,

And the mouth of the deceitfull are opened against me, they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

And of deceitfull men the mouths against me op'ned be,

They with a tongue that lying is have spoken against me.

3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred: and fought against me without a cause.

3 They also compassd me about with words from hatred brought,

And without any cause from me against me then they fought.

4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give my self unto prayer.

5 And they have rewarded me evill for good, and hatred for my love.

4 They for my love mine enemies are, but I to pray'r me move:

5 They me rewarded ill for good, and hatred for my love.

6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become si….

6 At his right hand let Satan stand, the wicked set him over:

7 Let him condemn'd be when he's judg'd, let sin become his prayer.

8 Let his dayes be few: and let another take his office.

9 Let his children be fatherlesse; and his wife a widow.

8 Few be his dayes, another then let thou his office take:

9 Let fatherlesse his children be, his wife a widow make.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

10 His children still as vagabonds a begging let them go,

Let from their places desolate them seek their bread also.

11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath: and let the stranger spoil his labour.

11 Let also the extortioner catch all that's on his soile,

And let those that are strangers come and all his labour spoile.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherlesse children:

12 Let mercy none at all extend unto him in distresse:

Nor any let to favour be his children fatherlesse.

13 Let his posterity be cut off, and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

13 And let thou his posterity be all cut off about,

And in the following age let then their name be bloted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembred with the Lord, and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

14 O let his fathers wickednesse with God remembred be,

And let not als his mothers sin be blotted out by thee.

15 Let them be before the Lord continually▪ that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

15 Let them all be before the Lord, and that continually,

That he of them may from the earth cut of… the memory.

16 Because that he remembred not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.

16 Because that he remembred not his mercy to impart,

But did poor needy persecute, to slay the broken in heart.

17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him▪ as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

17 As he also did cursing love so let it to him go:

As blessing was not his delight far from him be it so.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing, like as with his garment: so let it come into his bowels like water,

18 As he himself with cursing cloth'd as with his garment, so

Into his very bowels down like water let it go,

And like oyl into his bones.

19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him: and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

And like the oile into his bones: 19 As garments let it be

Which covere him, for girdle als wherewith still girded's he.

20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the Lord: and of them that speak evil against my soul.

20 Let this of mine adversaries from God be the reward,

And of them that against my soul speak ill without regard.

21 But do thou for me, O God the Lord, for thy names sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.

21 But do thou for thine own names sake, O God the Lord for me:

Because that good thy mercy is, let me delivered be.

22 For I am poor and needy; and my heart is wounded within me.

22 For I am in a poor estate, and in a needy case:

My heart it also wounded is within me in its place.

23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth, I am tossed up and down as the locust.

2… Like as a shade when it declines, so likewise am I gone,

And as the locust also I am tossed up and down.

24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatnesse.

25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me, they shaked their heads.

24 My flesh of fatnesse faileth all, my knees through fast are weak:

25 I their reproach became; they look'd, and on me heads did shake.

26 Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy.

27 That they may know that this is thy hand, that thou Lord hast done it.

26 Help me O Lord my God; O save in mercy me anone;

27 That they may know this is thy hand, and that thou hast it done.

28 Let them curse, but blesse thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed, but let thy servant rejoyce.

28 Them let thou curse, but do thou blesse: and when they do arise

Let them ashamed be; but let thy servant then rejoice.

29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion as with a mantle.

29 Let all my foes be cloth'd with shame and let themselves them cover

Ev'n with their own confusion as with a mantle over.

30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth: yea I will praise him among the multitude.

30 I greatly with my mouth now will give praise unto the Lord,

Yea, I among the multitude will praise to him afford.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor: to save him from those that condemn his soul.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of him that poore is then,

That he may him preserve from those that do his soul condemn.

PSAL. CX.

THe Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, untill I make thine enemies thy footstool.

THe Lord hath said unto my Lord, seat at my right hand take,

Untill that those thine enemies thy footstool I do make.

2 The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

2 The Lord he of thy strength the rod send out of Zion shall:

Do thou rule even in the midst of those thine enemies all.

3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holinesse from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

3 In the day of thy power shall be thy people willing fast:

In holy beauties from mornes wombe dew of thy youth thou hast.

4 The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchisedek.

4 The Lord himself thus hath he sworn and will repent him never,

Of order of Melchisedeck thou art a priest for ever.

5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike thorow kings in the day of his wrath.

6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies;

5 At thy right hand in day of wrath God strike through Kings he will,

6 Among the heathen he shall judge, the place with dead hee'le sill.

He shall wound the heads over many countries.

7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

He'le wound the heads of those that are set many countries o're,

7 He'l in the way drink of the brook, he'le lift the head therefore,

PSAL. CXI.

PRaise ye the Lord, I will praise the Lord with my whole heart: in the assemblie of the upright, and in the congregation.

PRaise ye the Lord; with all my heart I'le praise the Lord alone

In assembly of upright men and congregation.

2 The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

3 His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousnesse endureth for ever.

2 Gods works are great, sought out of all that therein have their pleasure,

3 His work is glorious, hon'rable, his justice lasts for ever.

And mindfull of his Covenant he evermore will be.

6 He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.

6 He to his people of his works hath shew'd the power large,

That of the heathen he may give to them the heritage.

7 The works of his hands are verity and judgement: all his commandements are sure.

8 They stand fast for ever and ever: and are done in truth and uprightnesse.

7 Works of his hands, truth, judgement are, all's sure he doth command:

8 They done in truth and uprightnesse for ever fast do stand.

9 He sent redemption unto his people, he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his Name.

9 He sent redemption to his folk the Covenant of his

10 Gods fear wisdomes beginning is; good understanding they

Have all that his commandements do: his praise endures for ay.

PRaise ye the Lord, blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandements.

PRaise ye the Lord, blest is the man that fears the Lord aright,

That doth in his commandements greatly himself delight.

2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

2 His seed shall surely mighty be ev'n all the earth upon,

Of all the upright blessd shall be the generation.

3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousnesse endureth for ever.

3 And there shall be within his house both wealth and richesse sure;

Yea and the righteousnesse that's his for ever doth endure.

4 VntoUnto the upright there ariseth light in the darknesse: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

4 In darknesse there ariseth light to them that upright be,

Full of compassion, gracious and righteous is he.

5 A good man sheweth favour and lendeth; be will guide his affairs with discretion.

5 A good man he doth favour shew, and also he doth lend,

He with discretion his affairs will guide unto the end.

6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in overlasting remembrance.

6 Assuredly for evermore not moved be shall he,

In everlasting remembrance the righteous shall be.

7 He shall not be afraid of evill tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.

7 He shall not be afraid of what ill tidings can afford,

Untill upon his enemies that his desire he see.

10 The wicked greived shall it see, his teeth he gnashing all

Shall melt away; and the desire of ill men perish shall.

PSAL. CXIII.

PRaise ye the Lord. Praise, O ye servants of the Lord: praise the Name of the Lord.

2 Blessed be the Name of the Lord: from this time forth and for evermore.

PRaise God, O ye Gods servants praise, the Name of God praise ye:

2 From this time forth the Name of God for ever blessed be.

3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same: the Lords Name is to be praised.

3 Ev'n from the rising of the sun unto his going down,

The Name of him that is the Lord must praisd be with renown.

4 The Lord is high above all nations: and his glory above the heavens.

4 The Lord above all Nations exalted high doth prove,

The glory that to him belongs the heavens is above.

5 Who is like unto the Lord our God: who dwelleth on high:

6 Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth?

5 To God our Lord that dwels on high O who is like in worth:

6 Himself that humbleth to behold things in the heav'n and earth?

7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust: and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill▪

8 That he may set him with Princes: even with the Princes of his people.

7 From dust he doth the poor raise up from dunghill needy lift:

8 That he with Princes, princes of his people may him set.

9 He maketh the barren woman to keep house; to be a joyfull mother of children: Praise ye the Lord.

9 The barren woman to keep house he maketh, and to be

A mother of her children glade; praise to the Lord give yee.

PSAL. CXIV.

WHen Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Iacob from a people of strange language:

WHen those that were of Israel went out of Egypt there;

And Jacobs house a people from that of strange language were.

2 Iudah was his sanctuary: and Israel his dominion.

3 The sea saw it, and fled: Iordan was driven back.

2 His Sanctuary Judah was, his Kingdome was Isra'l.

3 The sea it saw, and it did flee, driv'n back was Jordan all.

4 The mountains skipped like rams: and the little hils like lambs.

5 What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest, thou Iordan, that thou wast driven back?

4 Like rams the mountains, little hills like lambs did skipping make:

5 Why fledst thou sea? thou Jordan als that thou wast driven back.

6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams: and ye little hils like lambs?

6 And likewise ye the mountains high that ye did skip like rams?

And ye the hills that little are like to the younger lambs?

7 Tremble thou earth at the presence of the Lord: at the presence of the God of Iacob:

7 Now at the presence of the Lord earth tremble thou for fear:

Yea at the presence of the God of Jacob to him dear.

8 Which turned the rock into a standing water: the flint into a fountain of waters.

8 Which into waters turn'd the rock there standing like a lake,

And in the flint a fountain fair of waters then did make.

PSAL. CXV.

NOt unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy Name give glory: for thy mercy, and for thy truths sake.

NOt to us Lord, not unto us, but do thou glory take

Unto thy Name, both for thy truth and for thy mercies sake.

2 Wherefore should the heathen say: Where is now their God?

3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he pleased.

2 Wherefore should thus the heathen say, where is their God now gone?

But in the heavens is our God, he what he pleas'd hath done.

4 Their idols are silver and gold: the work of mens hands.

5 They have mouths, but they speak not▪ eyes have they, but they see not.

4 Their idols silver are and gold, works of mens hands they be:

5 Mouths have they, but they do not speak, eyes have they but not see.

6 They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not.

7 They have hands but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.

6 Ears have they but hear not, they have a nose but smell they not:

7 Their hands not handle, feet not walk, nor speak they through their throat.

8 They that make them, are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth in them.

9 O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.

8 They that them make are like to them, who trust in them, so be;

9 O Isra'l trust thou in the Lord, their help and shield is he.

10 O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord▪ he is their help and their sheild.

11 Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.

10 O Aarons house trust in the Lord; their help and shield is he,

11 Ye that fear God trust in the Lord, their help and shield is he.

12 The Lord hath been mindfull of us, he will blesse us, he will blesse the house of Israel: he will blesse the house of Aaron.

12 The Lord of us hath mindfull been, yea he will blesse us still,

He will blesse Isra'ls house, the house of Aaron blesse he will.

13 He will blesse them that fear the Lord▪ both small and great.

14 The Lord shall increase you more and more: you, and your children.

13 He will them blesse that fear the Lord, and that both great and small:

14 The Lord increase you more and more you and your children shall.

15 You are blessed of the Lord: which made heaven and earth.

16 The heaven, even the heavens are the Lords: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

5 You of the Lord all blessed are, which made the earth and heav'n:

6 The heav'n, the heav'ns are Gods, but he earth to mens sons hath giv'n.

17 The dead praise not the Lord: neither any that go down into silence.

18 But we will blesse the Lord, from this time forth and for overmore. Praise the Lord.

17 The dead, nor who to silence go Gods praise do not record▪

18 But henceforth and for evermore wee'le blesse God; praise the Lord.

PSAL. CXVI.

I Love the Lord because he hath heard my voice, and my supplications.

2 Because he hath enclined his ear unto me: therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.

I Love the Lord, because my voice, and prayers heard hath he:

2 I while I live will call on him who bow'd his ear to me.

3 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell got hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.

3 The sorrows that I had of death encompassed me round;

And on me pains of hell got hold, I trouble sorrow found.

4 Then called I upon the Name of the Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee deliver my soul.

4 Upon the Name then of the Lord I called in this speech:

Do thou deliver this my soul, O Lord, I thee beseech.

5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous: yea, our God is mercifull.

6 The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.

5 God gracious and righteous is, yea mercifull's our Lord▪

6 God saves the simple; he to me brought low, did help afford.

7 Return unto thy rest, O my soul: for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.

7 Do thou return unto thy rest O thou my soul in me,

For bountifully hath the Lord in all things dealt with thee▪

8 For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

… For this my soul it was from death delivered by thee,

Mine eyes from tears, and als my feet from falling thou didst free.

9 I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.

10 I beleeved, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted.

9 I in the land of living men will walk the Lord before:

10 I did believe, therefore I spake: I was afflicted sore.

11 I said in my hast; All men are liers.

12 What shall I render unto the Lord▪ for all his benefites towards me?

11 When I was in my haste, I said, that all men liers be;

12 What shall I render God for all his benefites to me?

13 I will take the cup of salvation: and call upon the Name of the Lord.

14 I will pay my vows unto the Lord: now in the presence of all his people.

13 I'le of salvation take the cup, on Gods Name will I call:

14 I'le pay my vows now to the Lord before his people all:

15 Precious in the sight of the Lord: is the death of his saints.

16 O Lord, truly I am thy servant, I am thy servant, and the son of thy handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.

15 In Gods sight his Saints death is dear: 16 Lord I'm thy servant fast,

Thy servant I'm, thy handmaids son▪ my bonds thou loosed hast.

17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving: and will call upon the Name of the Lord.

18 I will pay my vows unto the Lord▪ now in the presence of all his people.

17 I'le give thee sacrifice of thanks, and on Gods Name will call:

18 I'le to the Lord now pay my vows before his people all.

19 In the courts of the Lords house▪ in the midst of thee, O Ierusalem. Praise yee the Lord.

19 Within the courts of Gods own house within the midst of thee,

O city of Jerusalem praise to the Lord give yee.

PSALME CXVII.

O Praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.

O Give ye praise unto the Lord, ye nations all that be:

And also ye the people all, unto him praise give ye.

2 For his mercifull kindnesse is great towards us: and the trueth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord.

2 For great's his kindnesse mercifull he doth to us afford,

The Lord his truth for ever lasts, O do ye praise the Lord.
