Vindication of Ecclesiastical Volume 3, Index 15 – Errata

INDEX 15. Of Scripture Texts abuſed, perverted, alledged, altered by Popes, Pontificians, and the Church of Rome, to juſtifie their Errors, Corruptions, and St. Peters, Popes Ʋniverſal Monarchy, Vicarſhip; and thoſe which moſt evidently refute them.

Moreover the Second Commandement, Exod. 20. 4, 5, 6. Deut. 5. 8… 9, 10. is quite obliterated out of all their Breviaries, Miſſals, Howres, Offices, Pſalters, Letanies, Roſaries, Primers of our Lady, and moſt of their late Catechiſins, as inconſiſtent with their Images, and adorations of them: All which are againſt theſe direct Texts; Deut. 4. 2. c. 12. 32. They inſiſt on the very words of the Idolatrous Jews, Jer. 4. 17, 18, 19. to juſtifie their adoration of the Virgin Mary as the Queen of Heaven, as they did the Moon, p. 16. Texts they impertinently or blaſphemouſly alledge, wreſt, miſapply to prove St. Peters and Popes Univerſal Monarchy, Supremacy over Kings, Kingdoms, &c. Gen. 1. 16. Pſal. 2. 8. Pſ. 45. 16. Pſ. 72. 8. Saints ſeeing of Prayers in the New Popiſh Looking-glaſſe of the Trinity, p. 57, 58. The pretended Soveraign Monarchy and Vicarſhip of St. Peter and Popes, p. 9, 10, 11, 12, 13. The Advocateſhip, Mediatorſhip, &c. of the Virgin Mary; proving Chriſt alone to be our only Advocate, Interceſſor, Mediator, Redeemer, Reconciler, Ayde, Hope, Help, Deliverer, Saviour, Light, Salvation, High Prieſt, p. 29, 36, 41, 42. Texts proving that Chriſt alone was born without original, and lived without actual ſin, not the Virgin Mary, p. 46. That Vows are to be made to God alone, p. 51. That all Miracles are ever viſible to all mens eyes, and ſeldome wrought, by ſome extraordinary perſons, not every Prieſt; and that God hath made our ſenſes judges of the truth of Chriſts body, incarnation, reſurrection, aſcenſion, as well as Miracles, p. 75, 76. That the Verbe Is, in This Is my body, is predicated only ſignificatively, figuratively, ſacramentally▪ not identically and tranſubſtantiatively; p. 77, 78, 79.

To the Reader.

Kind Reader,

THE Reaſons why I have enlarged theſe Tables in ſundry particulars, beyond the ordinary brevity of Tables, with very great pains, were three; 1. That thoſe of our Engliſh Nation who underſtand not the Latine Tongue, may read the ſubſtance of this Tome in theſe Engliſh Tables, and ſo reap benefit by it. 2ly. That thoſe Stateſmen, Noblemen, Judges and others, who want either leiſure, or patience to read over this whole Tome diſtinctly, may read the Epitome of it, or any part thereof they deſire ſatisfaction in, in theſe Tables. 3ly. That Stateſmen, Divines, Common, Civil Lawyers, Heralds, and others who delight in Hiſtory▪ may read over what moſt concerns their ſeveral callings, ſtudies, in each diſtinct Table, if they mind not to peruſe the whole; which they could not ſo eaſily have done, had I digested all theſe Indexes into one; not ſo well underſtood, had I contracted them into the ſhorteſt ſort of Indexes, forcing their Readers to turn to every page for every thing they look after, and peruſe it ere they can diſcern the purport thereof; which now they may read in theſe Indexes, without further trouble, and peruſe what they pleaſe at large in the Text.
