Popery Anatomized, Title page – Poem

POPERY ANATOMIZED, OR A LEARNED, PIOUS, AND ELABORAT Treatiſe; wherein many of the greateſt and weightieſt points of Controverſie, between us and Papiſts, are handled; and the truth of our Doctrine clearly proved: And the falſhood of their Religion and Doctrine anatomized, and laid open, and moſt evidently convicted and confuted by Scripture, Fathers, and alſo by ſome of their own Popes, Doctors, Cardinals, and of their own Writers. In anſwer to M. Gilbert Brown, Prieſt.

By that learned, ſingularly pious, and eminently faithful ſervant of Jeſus Christ M. John Welſch, Miniſter of the Goſpel firſt at Kirkubright, next at Air in Scotland, and laſt at S. John d'Angely in France.

The ſecond Edition, reviſed, corrected, and divided into Sections.

To which is annexed, A Diſcovery of the bloody, rebellious, and treaſonable principles and practiſes of Papiſts, in diſſolving Oaths, committing Treaſons, raiſing Warrs and Commotions, and uſing imparalleled cruelties toward Proteſtants.

By MATTHEW CRAFORD.

GLASGOW, By ROBERT SANDERS, Printer to the City and Univerſity, 1…72.

In hanc pij & docti Auctoris Diatriben, & pij & docti viri M. Matth. Crafordij additamentum decaſtichon Latino-Scoticum.

ROmulidum qui ſacra oupis cognoſcere ſacra,

Et fugere, haec ſancti perlege ſcripta viri.

Perſpicuè & ſolidè Babylonia ſcita refedit,

Queîs miſeras animas turba doloſa capit.

Quae nunc; heu! paſſim, nullo prohibente vagatur,

Pro ſapidis dapibus toxica tetra ferens.

Non minimas CRAFORDI etiam vir docte mereris

Grates, addideris quòd bona multa libro.

Vulnera quò capiat meretrix Romana, nefandi

Propinans ſtupri pocula plena ſui.

The ſame in Engliſh.

WHo curſed Rome and Romiſh rites would know,

And them eſchew, this Book will clearly ſhow,

It Babels doctrine truly doth declare,

Wherewith poor ſouls falſe Papiſts do enſnare:

Who now, alace! run freely as they will,

For wholſome food with poyſon them to kill.

Great thanks alſo ſhould learned CRAFORD get,

For theſe good things he to the Book hath ſet;

Which may help much to give Romes Whoor a wound,

Whoſe whoordoms ſo doth in the Land abound.
