Reading and Spelling English Made Easy, Prayer 3 – Prayer 4
A Prayer for the Morning.
MOST Holy Lord God; I thy poor, ſinful, wretched Creature, deſire to give thee all praiſe for thy …acious preſerving of me this night, and raiſing me up … health and ſtrength, this morning. Be pleaſed, gracious Father, to bleſs me alſo with all ſpiritual bleſſings. O make me truly and deeply ſenſible of the great ſinfulneſs of my nature, heart, tongue, and life, to feel in my Conſcience, that I was born a Child of wrath, and have broken all thine holy Laws, and am therefore moſt juſtly liable to thy wrath, and curſe. Dear Father, I beſeech thee for Jeſus Chriſt his ſake, freely to pardon all my ſins, and to ſay to my ſoul, That thou art my ſalvation. Open my blind eyes, and ſoften my hard heart; enable me firmly to believe in the Lord Jeſus, and ſincerely to receive Him, and reſt upon Him as my only Lord and Saviour; and to love him with all my heart, ſoul, mind, and ſtrength, and my neighbour as my ſelf. O give me repentance unto life, whereby I may be heartily grieve for, and aſhamed of all my ſins, ſpecially thoſe, that have been deareſt to me; and to turn from them all to thee, with a full purpoſe of, and endeavour after new obedience. Aſſiſt me by thy grace, to glorifie thy Name, in all my thoughts, words, and deeds, entirely to love, reverence, obey, and ſubmit unto my Parents and Inſtructors in all things in the Lord. Do good to all thy people, eſpecially to my dear Parents; Reward them a thouſand-fold into their boſoms for all their love, care, and tenderneſs to me; bleſs my dear brethren and ſiſters. O let us all know and fear thee, from the leaſt to the greateſt of us. Bleſs the Means of my Education. This day, preſerve me from the ſins, dangers, and temptations, to which I may be expos'd, ſpecially from vanity of mind, idleneſs, pride, lying, and diſobedience. Mind me of thine All-ſeeing eye, of the day of my death, and of thy judgment, that I may prepare for them; of the dreadful torments of Hell, that I may eſcape them, and of the unſpeakable and everlaſting joys of Heaven, that I may inherit them. Guid… me by thy Counſel; Bring me to thy Glory, and through Jeſus Chriſt. Amen.
A Prayer for the Evening.
MOST Gracious Father, I deſire ſincerely to love, and praiſe thee, for thine infinite goodneſs to me all my days; for beſtowing upon me, and continuing to me life, health, food, raiment, education, protection, eſpecially for Jeſus Chriſt ſo freely given for me, and offered to me, with all his benefits; for his holy Life, accurſed Death, powerful Reſurrection, and prevalent Interceſſion for me, and others poor ſinners. Oh that all theſe Bands of Love, might powerfully draw my heart nearer to thee, and ſix it for ever with thee. And now, O Lord, be pleaſed, for Jeſus Chriſt his ſake, to pardon all the ſins, that I have this day, either in thought, word, or leed committed againſt thee, or my neighbour. Renew me in the whole man, after the Image of God. Enable me more and more to dye unto all ſin, and to live unto all righteouſneſs. Own me as thy Child, and let me be pitied, protected, inſtructed, and provided for by thee, as by a Father. Watch over me for good this night, and give me ſleep, as thy beloved Child. Bleſs all thy people, that fear thy Name, ſpecially my dear Parents, Brethren, Siſters, and Relations. Oh bleſs them with temporal, ſpiritual, and eternal bleſſings. Take care of me this night, and for ever, for into thy hands I commend my Spirit. All this I beg, only for Jeſus Chriſt his ſake, in whoſe Name I further pray, ſaying, Our Father which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy Name, Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our treſpaſſes as we forgive them that treſpaſs againſt us: And … us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For … is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, for ever and … Amen.
