The Snake in the Grass Further Discovered, Glossary

A KEY TO THE QUAKERS Uſurped, and (to moſt) Unintelligible PHRASES.

THere is not any thing in the Quakers Method of delu ding, which doth more tend to the inſnaring of unwary Souls, than their aſſerting their Falſe, Antichriſtian, and Anti-Scriptural Tenets, under Scripture-words and Phraſes, and in thoſe very terms wherein are expreſſed the Truths of God; while in the mean time, they mean nothing leſs than their true import, and what people (who are not well acquainted with their Tenets) ſuppoſe them to mean. By this Artifice they beget a good Opinion of themſelves, and Errours with too many, and by degrees ſo vitiate their Principles, that in a ſhort time they are prepared to imbrace the groſſeſt Errours bare-faced.

I ſhall therefore (as a work of no ſmall uſe to ſuch who are attempted by them, or who have a Call or opportunity to deal with them for their convincing or confuting, or the ſecuring others who are in danger by them) give you a true and candid account of their ſenſe and meaning of a multitude of Scripture and Religious Phraſes, which they utter and apply to their falſhoods; and alſo of their newcoyn'd Words and Phraſes, which are more peculiar to their Sect and Notions. I diſpoſe them Alphabetically, for their more eaſie finding on any occaſion.
