The Anatomy of the Mass, Book 1 · Chapter 1
CHAP. I.
THe Inſtitution of the holy Supper by Chriſt Jeſus, as it is contained in the firſt Epiſtle of the Apoſtle Saint Paul to the Corinthians Chap. 11.
23 I have received of the Lord that which alſo I delivered unto you; that the Lord Jeſus the ſame night in which he was betrayed, tooke bread;
24 And when he had given thankes, hee brake it and ſaid, Take, eate: This is my body, which is broken for you: this doe in remembrance of me.
25 After the ſame manner alſo he tooke the cup when he had ſupped, ſaying, This cup is the New Teſtament in my blood: This doe ye as oft as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eate this bread, and drink this cup, ye doe ſhew the Lords death till he come.
27 Wherefore, whoſoever ſhall eate thi… bread, and drinke this cup of the Lord unworthily, ſhall be guilty of the bodie an… blood of the Lord.
28 Let a man therefore examine himſelfe, and ſo let him ea…e of that bread, an… drink of that cup.
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnatio… to himſelfe, not diſcerning the Lords body.
Saint Mathew in the 26 Chap. and 29 Verſe, addes theſe words of the Lord.
BVt I ſay unto you, I will not drinke henceforth of this fruit of the Ʋine untill that day when I drinke it new with you in my Fathers Kingdome.
And in the 27 verſe he teſtifieth that Chriſt preſenting the cup to his Diſciples, ſaid, Drink ye all of it.
