The Psalms of David in Meter with the Prose Interlined, Psalm 73
PSALME LXXIII.
TRuly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone▪ my steps had well-nigh slipt.
TRuely God's good t'Isra'l, to such, as clean in heart abide:
2 As for me, my feet neer were gone, my steps well nigh did slide,
3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperitie of the wicked.
3 For at those men that foolish are envious then was I,
When I of them that wicked are saw the prosperity.
4 For there are no bands in their death, but their strength is firm.
5 They are not in trouble as other men: neither are they plagued like other men.
4 For in their death no bands there are but firm their strength is then,
5 Not troubled they, nor plagued are like unto other men.
6 Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain: violence covereth them as a garment.
6 Therefore their pride, as doth a chain, them compasseth about,
And as a garment violence doth cover them throughout.
7 Their eyes stand out with fatnes: they have more then heart could wish.
8 They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak lostily.
7 Their eyes stand out with fat, they have more then their heart could wish:
8 Corrupt they …ewdly speak t'oppresse: their speach it lo…ty is.
9 They set their mouth against the heavens; and their tongue walketh through the earth.
10 Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.
9 They set their mouth against the heav'ns, through earth als walks their tongue:
10 Thus turns his people; from full cup to them are waters wrung.
11 And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?
11 And thus they say, how doth at all God know things certainly?
And is there knowledge to be had in him that's the most Hy?
12 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world they increase in riches.
12 Behold those the ungodly are and prosper at their will
Here in the world, they do also increase in riches still.
13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.
13 I verily my heart in vain have cleans'd as I perceive,
And in mine innocencie als my hands I washed have.
14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastned every morning.
15 If I say, I will speak thus: bobold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.
14 For all day long I plagu'd have been, each morn I chastened was:
15 If thus I say I'le speak, lo I offend thy childrens race.
16 When I thought to know this, it was too painfull for me.
17 Untill I went into the sanctuarie of God, then understood I their end.
16 When I this thought to know, then it too painfull was for me:
17 Till to Gods Sanctuarie I went, then I their end did see.
18 Surely thou didst set them in slipperie places: thou castedst them down into destruction.
19 In slippry places surely thou them diddest set not fast,
And thou into destruction them also down didst cast,
19 How are they brought into desolation as in a moment? they are utterly consumed with terrours.
19 How into desolation brought are in a moment they?
With terrours they ev'n utterly consumed are away.
20 As a dream when one awaketh: so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.
20 As is a dream when one awakes, even so, O Lord, likewise
When thou awakest, thou of them the image shalt despise
21 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.
22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
21 Thus grieved was my heart in me, my reins were pricked sore:
22 So foolish I and ignorant a beast was thee before.
23 Neverthelesse I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
23 Yet neverthelesse continually I present am with thee:
By my right hand thou hast, O Lord, most safely holden me.
24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsell, and afterward receive me to glory.
24 Thou with the counsel that is thine a guide shalt mak me have,
And afterward thou surely shalt to glory me receive.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee.
25 Who is he whom in Heaven I do have but thee alone?
And on the earth that I desire besides thee there is none.
26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strenth of my heart, and my portion for ever.
26 My flesh me faileth, and mine heart, but God the strength alone
Is of my heart, and als for ay he is my portion.
27 For lo, they that are far from thee, shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
27 For lo they that are far from thee most surely perish shall;
Them that a whooring from thee go thou hast destroyed all.
28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.
28 But it is good for me that I draw neer to God alway;
In God the Lord I trust, that all thy works declare I may.
