PSAL. CXXXVII.
BY the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down. yea, we wept: when we remembred Zion.
OF Babylon the rivers by there sat we down together:
Yea, we did weep, when as we there on Zion did remember.
2 We hanged our harps upon the willows, in the midst thereof.
3 For there they that caried us away captive, required of us a song,
2 In midst there of the willowes on our harps we hanged thus.
3 For they that there us captives led, requir'd a song of us.
And they that wasted us, required of us mirth: saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
And they also that wasted us requir'd us mirth to bring;
They said to us, one of the songs of Zion to us sing.
4 How shall we sing the Lords song in a strange land?
5 If I forget thee, O Ierusalem: let my right hand forget her cunning.
4 O how the Lords song shall we sing thus in a strange land set?
5 Let my right hand forget her skill, if Salem I forget.
6 If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof my mouth; if I prefer not Ierusalem above my chief joy.
6 If I forget thee let my tongue from my mouths roof not move,
If I Jerus…lem not prefer my chiefest joy above.
7 Remember, O Lord, the children of Edom, in the day of Ierusalem: who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
7 Remember Edoms children, Lord, in Jerusalems day▪
Who ev'n to its foundation rase, rase it, then did say.
8 O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed, happy shall he be that rewardeth thee, as thou hast served us.
8 O daughter thou of Babylon, who art destroyd to be,
Who thee rewards as thou us serv'd, most happy be shall he.
9 Happy shall he be that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
9 Yea happy surely shall he be that those thy little ones
Doth to him take, and also them doth dash against the stones.
PSAL. CXXXVIII.
I Will praise thee with my whole heart: before the gods will I sing praise to thee.
2 I will worship towards thy holy temple,
BEfore the gods with all my heart I'le praise, sing praise to thee:
2 Towards thy holy Temple thou shalt by me worship'd be;
And praise thy Name, for thy loving kindnesse, and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy Name.
I'le praise thy Name both for thy truth, thy kindnesse, and thy love,
For thou hast magnifi'd thy word ev'n all thy Name above.
3 In the day when I cried, thou answeredst me; and strengthnedst me with strength in my soul.
3 Thou in the day when I did cry, an answer gav'st to me,
And thou with strength within my soul didst make me strong to be.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O Lord: when they hear the words of thy mouth.
5 Yea, they shall sing in the wayes of the Lord: for great is the glory of the Lord.
4 When all earths Kings Lord of thy mouth hear words, they shall thee praise:
5 Yea in the Lords wayes shall they sing, for great Gods glory is.
6 Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
6 Though that the Lord be high, yet he to them that lowly are
Hath a respect; but who are proud he knoweth them afar.
7 Though I wal… in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me, thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies; and thy right hand shall save me.
7 Though I in midst of trouble walk, I from thee life shall have:
'Gainst my foes wrath thou'lt stretch thy hand thy right hand shall me save▪
8 The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.
8 God will perfite what me concerns, for ay thy mercy stands,
O Lord, do thou not now forsake the works of thine own hands.
