A SVPPORT FOR the ſinking Heart in times of diſtreſſe. OR A SERMON PREACHED in LONDON, to uphold hope and allay feare, Ianuary 4th. Which was a day of great trouble and deepe danger in the City.

By SIMEON ASH.

PROV. 25.11.

A Word fitly spoken, is like apples of gold, in pictures of ſilver.

LONDON Printed by G.M. and are to be ſold by Thomas Vnderhill, at the ſigne of the Bible in Woodſtreet neare the Counter, MDCXLII.

To the Chriſtian Reader.

THE ſeaſonableneſſe of this Sermon occaſioning warme workings in the hearts of many who heard it preached, the Author of it was perſwaded to print it: but he judging it unworthy ſuch publike view, returned a denyall unto thoſe deſires of his friends. Afterwards understanding that a Coppy taken by ſhort hand from his mouth, would be made common, he rather choſe to peruſe and correct it, then to expoſe himſelfe and the reader unto greater wrong. Hereupon ſundry phraſes are filed, and ſome Scriptures lay…d more open, other additions or amplifications are not very many, but thou now hast the body of the Sermon, both for matter and method, as it was firſt delivered. When thou meetest with wants and weakneſſes, remember that not the confidence of the preacher, but the importunity of ſome of his heareres, hath made this diſcourſe thus publike. If by meanes hereof, thy ſoule ſhall receive any ſpirituall edification, and grow more able with hope and comfort, to thruſt through ſtraights in Heaven way; give God the glory of all his gracious workings upon thy ſpirit by Jeſus Chriſt.

Martiſ. 17. 1641.
