SERMONS Preached upon ſeveral Occaſions.

BY That Able and Faithful Servant of JESUS CHRIST, Mr Timothy Armitage, late Paſtor of a Church in the CITY of Norwich.

London, Printed 1678.

TO THE READER.

Reader,

THeſe Sermons, Preached divers years ſince by the Godly and Reverend Author, who is now with the Lord, reaping the fruit of his Holy Labours, which do ſtill follow him; having by the care and pains of a Chriſtian Brother, been preſerved, and now brought to Light by the good Hand of Providence, for thy good and benefit, as ſome other of his Works formerly publiſhed *Viz. Of the woman of Canaan: And of the three Children in the furnace., which (if they have come to thy hand) may have been through the Lords bleſſing: Be pleaſed therefore to underſtand, that they were preached and delivered by that Eminent Servant of God, Mr. Timothy Armitage, ſometimes Paſtor of the Church of Chriſt gathered at Norwich; as may eaſily appear unto thee (if thou haſt been acquainted with any of his Labours in Print) by that gracious Spirit which breaths and runs through all the Veins, and almoſt every Line of the ſame. 'Tis needleſs to hang out before theſe Sermons a Buſh, to commend the ſame to thy peruſal; do but taſte a little, and if thou haſt a ſavoury palate, thou wilt be ready to ſay as the Samaritanes to the Woman, that enticed them to go to ſee and hear Chriſt ſpeak, Joh. 4. 42. Now we believe not becauſe of thy ſaying, for we have heard him our ſelves. The Subjects herein handled we doubt not but thou wilt find to be very momentous *Firſt, The eminency of Chriſt, from Cant. 2. 3. Secondly, About Forgiving one another, from Mat. 18. 21, 22. Thirdly, Walking with God, from Gen. 5. 24. Fourthly, Gain by Chriſt in life and death, from Phil. 1. 21., and very ſpiritually treated of: We ſhall not need to add any more in this kind, but commending them, and thy peruſal of them, to the Grace and Bleſſing of Jeſus Chriſt, in whom we ſhall deſire to remain

Thy Well-willers,

Thomas Allen,
