Run from Rome, Chapter 11

CHAP. XI.

Containing a ſecond proofe, that the faith of the Church of Rome is erroneous and falſe.

SVch as the foundation of the Romiſh faith is, ſuch is the faith it ſelfe; namely, falſe and erroneous, as I will ſhew by the argument that followes, in the ſeuerall parts of it.

If ſome of the Articles of the faith of the Church of Rome bee falſe and erroneous, then the faith of that Church is falſe and erroneous.

But ſome of the Articles of the faith of the Church of Rome are falſe and erroneous.

Therefore the faith of the Church of Rome is falſe and erroneous.

Leſt any man ſhould haſtily except againſt the conſequence of the propoſition, as if I went about to proue the whole by the part, which may not bee; I muſt intreat him to remember, that (as I noted before) in this queſtion, wee take the faith of the Church of Rome, for one intire thing, becauſe of that one bond, the authority of the Church or Pope, by which all the parts of it are ſo ioyned together, that they all make but one body. By reaſon of which bond he that refuſeth any one part reiecteth the whole. For by that his refuſall, he accuſeth their Church of errour, and failing in determining matters of faith, and ſo ouerthroweth the very foundation of their faith. Beſides, the denying of any one ſuch Article, let it bee in it ſelfe of neuer ſo ſmall importance, draweth vponupon the denyer that Anathema or curſe, which ſeizeth on all them which are not of the faith of the Church of Rome. Wherefore I may preſume without preſumption, that the conſequence is good, ſeeing eueryevery Article is equally and alike a matter of faith.

My aſſumption, I will make good by ſetting downe out of the Councill of Trent diuers Articles of the Romiſh ſaith, which are falſe and erroneous: and theſe they are,
