Si tamen ſacerdos deficiat conſecrato corpore, ſed non ſanguine, alius ſacerdos compleat conſecrationem ſanguinis, incipiens ab illo loco, Simi…odo, &c.
FIrſt, a if the prieſt finde him ſelfe to be ill at eaſe at the Aultar, after that he hath conſecrated, ſo that he can not make an ende of the worke which he hath begon: then, if there be any other prieſt at hand, and that the ſicke prieſt is able to ſhew him the place where he left, b he that is in health ought to begin there, and ſo make an ende of it. But if he cannot point him to the place, then let him begin at ſuch a place as may be geſſed he leaft at. But if there be neuer an other prieſt preſent, let another prieſt be looked for, againſt the next morrow, and then let the clarke ſhew to him aſwell as he can, where he muſt begin. Howbeit, if the clarke be not able to certifie him, nor none of thoſe that were preſent, neither can by any meanes vnderſtand where the ſicke prieſt dwelleth, then let him ſaye ouer againe, the conſecration, and make an ende of it deuoutly. For authoritie ſayeth, That that can not be ſaid to be twiſe done, which a man knoweth not whether it were done or not.
If the prieſt happen to miſcarrie, or die before he came to the Canon, it ſhal not be needefull for any other to make an end of the Maſſe: howbeit if any other will take vponupon him to celebrate it, he muſt begin at the beginning of the Maſſe, and deuoutly finiſh it all.
Now, if he miſcarrie in the Canon, and yet ſhall hauehave made ſome ſignes or croſſes before the tranſubſtantiation and conſecration of the Sacrament: then ſome other prieſt ought to begin againe, at the place where the other leaft, and onelyonly ſupplie that which remaineth.
d And if the prieſt ſhall happen to miſcarrie whiles he is in conſecrating, hauing already in parte pronounced ſome wordes, and not fully finiſhed: ſome other, prieſt, in the opiniō of Pope Innocent, ought to begin at this place, Who, ye day before he ſuffred. &c.
e Neuertheleſſe if the prieſt ſhall miſcarrie after that the bodye is once conſecrated, & not the blood, ſome other prieſt may finiſh the conſecration of the blood, beginning at this place, In like maner. &c.
a The falſe doctrine and errour of popiſh tranſubſtantiation, hath brought the whole Romiſh church & all her doctors into meruelous labirinthes: and engendred amongeſt them an infinite nomber of inſoluble queſtions & difficulties, & an exceeding nōber of doubtes: & the moſt ſtraunge and brutiſh abſurdities that poſſibly may be deuiſed as all men partly may iudge by the cautelles and inſtructions hereafter enſuing.
b Hereupon, might grow, diuerſe and ſondry inocnueniences. For, as touching the firſt, it might ſo fall out, as that there is none ſaue the ſame body that is there already made, and no blood at all. Or admit them to be both there, what ſhall become of the ſacrifice, which is yet to be made, and beſides who ſhall eate this body, and drinke … blood, but to put the body into the pixe?
c By theſe ſignes, are meant the croſſing … wherewith he muſt ſo often croſſe the bread … wine which are vponupon the Altar.
d It would alſo breede a great inconuenie… to hauehave two workmen to make one body. Whe… fore, that which the one beginneth to make, is … compted as nothing, if he goe not through w… it, and make it vp altogether, and withall, that … bodie hath not his full forme, vntill ſuch tim… the laſt worde be pronounced.
e In this caſe there are two body makers … the one breatheth ouer the bread, and thereu… is the bodie made: and the other ouer the w… wherewith the blood is made.
