¶ A prayer out of the .Cl. Pſalme.

WHen as al things which thou haſt created (O almightie God) praiſe thée,A praier … wee may prayſe G… with a ch… full heart they do not onelyonly that which is due to thy famous honour and glorious renowme, but alſo they worke moſte wonderfully and aboundantly theyr owne perfection: for there is nothing which we can do of more excellencie, then to celebrate thée as being the originall and ende of all good things, whoſe vnmeaſurable benefites we feele dayly poured vponupon vsus. But neither can we ſufficiently ynough perceiue them, nor yet thy infinite goodneſſe, ſo long as we be here oppreſſed with the moſt gréeuous burthen of our heynous ſinnes, and borne downe by reaſon thereof, with an excéeding great waight of afflictions, ſo that a man muſt néedes vnſkilfully prayſe the thing which he knoweth not. We do therefore earneſtlye require thée (O mightye God) euen from the bottome of the heart, to diſburthen vsus of the fardell of our corrupt naughtineſſe, which being layde downe, we miſtruſt not but the darkneſſe of preſent calamities ſhall be driuen away from the ſacred Church, ſo that ſhe may lift vp hir eyes to hir maker and redéemer, who (wondering as well at the ryches of thy excellent goodneſſe, as of the vnſpeakable wiſdome) ſhall magnifie thée with moſt highe prayſes, as méete it is. But nowe verily, ſo ſorowfull and lamentable things do incounter vsus eueryevery where, that we ſée nothing towardes vsus ſauing thy wrathfull indignation: which as we deny not our ſelues to hauehave deſerued, ſo wée earneſtly deſire and heartily praye thee, to withdrawe the ſame from vsus at length, to the intent we may be ſtirred vp to the worthie prayſing of thy gloryous name, not onelye in wordes, but with all tunable inſtruments méete to lift vppe our mindes vntounto thée, through Ieſus Chriſt our Lorde. Amen.

An other prayer out of the ſame Pſalme.

LIke as the holineſſe and magnificencie of thy excellent name (O moſt mightie God) is continually celebrated in the glorious Sanctuarie of ſuche as be bleſſed and ſpiritually minded, which thing maye bée done ſo much ye more excellentlier of them, for that they beholde the ſecretneſſe of thy Maieſtie both néerer and perfectlier: euen ſo is it méete alſo that mortall men ſhould alwayes addict themſelues to extoll thy worthie prayſes: who ſee the vnmeaſurable treaſure of thy excellent goodneſſe, mightie power, and incomprehenſible wiſedome to be dayly manifeſted, both in heauen and in all creatures. But aboue all others, this belongeth to our charge, who (being illumined with fayth and with thy heauenly ſpirite) doe vnderſtande more of thy diuine miſteries out of the holy Scriptures, then nature is able to ſet forth with all hir bewtifull furniture: and therefore (we humblye beſéech thee) to ſtyrre vp our ſinfull heartes in ſuch wiſe, as we may worſhip thée with moſte pure prayſes and excéeding feruent peticions, through Ieſus Chriſt our Lord. Amen.

¶ A Prayer of Doctor Peter Martyr agaynſt worſhippers of bread and all maner of ſuperſticion.

AYde vsus nowe at length I humbly beſéech thée (O heauenly father) by lightning the mindes and heartes of thy Chriſtian people wyth the ſpirit of thy ſonne Chriſt Ieſus: who (laying Idolles and ſuperſtitions apart) may returne to the pure and vncorrupt worſhipping, honouring, and calling vponupon thee onelyonly: neyther ſuffer the honor due to thée alone to be wickedly and deuiliſhly attributed vntounto bread, wine, pictures, Images, and bones of dead perſons: thy holye name hath alreadie beene to long ſlaundered, to long hath the puritie of thy bleſſed Goſpell béene polluted: men hauehave ynough & to much abvſed the inſtitution of thy ſonnes ſupper, by conuerting the ſame to moſt filthie Idolatry. Mittigate at length theſe outrages of mad brayned men, that miſerably ouerthrowe themſelues hedlong, as they may no more go a whoring lewdly and voyde of ſhame, vponupon eueryevery hill, vnderunder eueryevery trée, in all by wayes, ſtréetes, Churches, and Chappels, with bread and wine, vnderunder the name of thy déere ſonnes Sacrament, and let them not defile the true honoring of thée after this wicked and blaſphemous maner. Vnleſſe thou (O moſt good and mercifull God) doeſt with thy puyſſant hand, take away & vtterly ſubuert this worſhipping of bread, the ſaluation of mankind and reedifying of thy ſacred Church can neuer be looked for. Helpe (O good God) ſuccour thy faythfull people whome thou haſt redéemed with the bloud of thy deere ſonne. And thou, O Chriſt Ieſu (who art a true and euerlaſting God) eſtabliſhe this worke which is begunne by thée, and bring it to the deſired ende: or if the ſore bée without hope of recouery, and that thy truth maye not any more take place commonly and openly in thy ſacred Church, then come and excerciſe iudgement with all ſpéede, and driue awaye (for the glorie of thy name) ſo ſhamefull a reproche from thy holy ſupper, which thou of thy incredible merciemercy and ſinguler goodneſſe haſt inſtituted, who lyueſt and reigneſt with the father, and the holy ghoſt euermore world without ende. Amen.
