LONDON, Printed by I.D. for Francis Eglesfield, and are to be ſold at the ſigne of the Mary-gold in Pauls Church-yard. 1640.

TO THE RIGHT HONOVRABLE MARY, Counteſſe of DORSET; the Vertuous Lady, of the Right Honourable, Edward Earle of DORSET.

MOST Honoured Lady; It is not the leaſt of your Vertues, that you are not proud of your Vertues; which, if it had beene in the Angells that fell, they had perhaps not fallen. And becauſe you delight ſo much in Humbleneſſe; It makes mee bold to Preſent unto you, theſe Pſalmes of Davids Humiliation. How happie were I, if I could make a Deſcant, anſwerable to Davids plaine ſong: but what is wanting in mine, your owne Meditations will happily ſupply; which cannot but be excellent, being followed by the practice of ſo Vertuous a life; of which I wiſh I could as well make a Monument to remaine to all Poſteritie, for their Example; as it will certainly remaine to your owne Poſteritie, for their glory. But leaſt I ſhould adde the offence of tediouſneſſe to boldneſſe: I humbly crave pardon for having ſaid ſo much; but more, for having ſayd no more; and make it my aſpiring ſuite to bee accounted as I truly am,

Your Ladiſhips devoted Servant, RICHARD BAKER.

Recenſui Meditationes has in Septem Pſalmos Davidis, & Typis mandari permitto.

THE SIXTH PSALME.

1 O Lord rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chaſten mee in thy heavie diſpleaſure.

2 Have merciemercy upon me, O Lord, for I am weake; Heale mee, for my bones are troubled.

3 My Soule alſo is troubled, but thou, O Lord, how long?

4 Returne, O Lord, and deliver my Soule; ſave me for thy mercies ſake.

5 For in Death there is no remembrance of thee; and who ſhall praiſe thee in the Grave?

6 I am weary with my ſighing; all the night make I my bed to ſwimme; I water my couch with my teares.

7 Mine eye is conſumed becauſe of griefe; and is waxen old becauſe of all mine enemies.

8 Depart from mee all ye workers of iniquitte; for the Lord hath heard the voyce of my weeping.

9 The Lord hath heard my ſupplication; the Lord hath received my prayer.

10 Let all mine enemies be aſhamed and ſore vexed, Let them turne their backes and bee confounded, ſuddenly.
