Meditations and Disquisitions Upon the Seven Consolatory Psalms of David, Text 2

THE TVVENTIE SEVENTH PSALME OF DAVID.

THe Lord is my light, and my ſalvation, whom ſhall I feare? the Lord is the ſtrength of my life; of whom ſhall I be afraid?

When the wicked; even mine enemies, and my foes, came upon me, to eate up my fleſh; they ſtumbled, and fell.

Though an hoſt ſhould encampe againſt me; my heart ſhall not feare; though warre ſhould riſe againſt me, in this will I be confident.

One thing have I deſired of the Lord; that will I ſeeke after, that I may dwell in the houſe of the Lord, all the dayes of my life; to behold the beautie of the Lord; and to inquire in his holy Temple.

For in the time of trouble, hee ſhall hide mee in his Pavillion; in the ſecret of his Tabernacle ſhall hee hide me; he ſhall ſet me upon a Rock.

And now ſhall my head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me; therefore will I offer in his Tabernacle ſacrifices of joy: I wil ſing; yea, I will ſing praiſes unto the Lord.

Heare, O Lord, when I cry with my voyce: have mercy alſo upon me, and anſwer me.

When thou ſaydſt; ſeeke yee my face; my heart ſaid unto thee; thy face Lord, wil I ſeeke.

Hyde not thy face farre from mee; put not thy ſervant away in anger: Thou haſt beene my helpe; leave me not, neither forſake mee, O God of my ſalvation.

When my father, and my mother forſake mee; then the Lord wil take mee up.

Teach me thy way, O Lord, and leade mee in a plaine path, becauſe of mine enemies.

Deliuer mee not over to the wil of mine enemies; for falſe witneſſes are riſen up againſt mee; and ſuch as breathe out crueltie.

I had fainted, unleſſe I had beleeved to ſee the goodneſſe of the Lord, in the land of the living.

Waite on the Lord; bee of good courage, and hee ſhall ſtrengthen thine heart; waite I ſay, on the Lord.
