prevent verb
To come or go before; to be up and doing ahead of someone or something, or to meet a person before they arrive. In the KJV it never means to stop or hinder: when the psalmist prevents the dawning of the morning, he is awake and praying before daybreak.
The common sense in English until the later 1600s, when hinder took over.
